The John McEnroe Library was established in 1994 with a generous grant from the John McEnroe Foundation.

The Library's mission is to support the New York Studio School's programs and courses by providing materials and information for students, faculty, staff and visiting lecturers. Holdings include  monographs on artists, art historical texts, art periodicals, and exhibition catalogs, as well as an extensive lecture archive, comprised of audio and video recordings of lectures from the past 30 years, featuring artists, historians, critics and philosophers.

The Library provides an online catalog to check the holdings of the collection, as well as allowing in-house access to research databases and indexes to aid in scholarly research.

There are currently several computers available in the Library for student use, all of which allow printing and access to the Internet. Students are encouraged to use the Library for visual research, studying, reading and watching or listening to lectures from the lecture archive.

Library hours change each semester and during marathons and breaks. The Library is open to alumni and the public on an appointment only basis. Orientation sessions, including hands-on training with the online catalog and research databases, are held at the beginning of the fall semester for all students, and on an individual basis thereafter.
